Romney Marsh Visitor Centre
Enjoy refreshments served in the café, chat with our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers and visit the gift shop where you can find local crafts, cards, wildlife information and maps of the area.
The Visitor Centre building itself is an award winning eco-friendly building with many interesting and sustainable features.
Take a gentle stroll around the grounds and gardens, along the boardwalk taking you over the seasonal ponds to views across the Romney Marsh.
On the site is a reconstructed Lookers Hut, a traditional building used by Lookers and Shepherds in the 18th and 19th Century, this is now the only publicly accessible hut on the Marsh.

Special activities for children are held regularly. These include pond dipping, bug roadshows, fun things to make, finding out about seeds etc. There is normally a small charge for these activities.
In the Country Park there are three walking trails - Dragonfly, Rabbit and Sheep - which start from the Visitor Centre. The Dragonfly Trail is fully accessible for all users including wheelchairs. The Rabbit Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs because of the soft sandy soil. Sheep graze the reserve some times throughout the year
Dogs are welcome but please keep them on a lead and clean up after them.
The Romney Marsh Visitor Centre is located to just north of New Romney on the A259 Dymchurch Road.

It is within easy walking and cycling distance of New Romney and St Mary's Bay and a regular bus service stops outside. There is a railway halt on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway which is open on special occasions and events at the centre. There is a car park at the Visitor Centre with parking for coaches.

The Visitor Centre is open every day of the week Monday to Sunday 10am to 4pm, including Spring and Summer Bank Holidays.

Discover the community garden, a centre of excellence for organic and permaculture gardening, the garden holds a gold award for wildlife gardening, demonstrating how to create balance and harmony between production and conservation. Demonstrations and courses are held throughout the year for both the beginner and experienced gardeners.
Seasonal organic produce, plants, preserves and herbs from the community garden on sale.

Inside the Visitor Centre
Home to the Art Shack
The Art Shack is set within the grounds of the Romney Marsh Visitor Centre and is surrounded by the rural beauty and tranqility of the gardens.
The Art Shack has regular exhibitions of local artist and photographers work that depict the seasons and vistas of the amazing beauty of the Romney Marsh.

The Lookers Hut was the domain of the Looker or shepherd who used the hut as temporary accommodation while tending the flocks, a store for his tools and medicines,and an operational base for his shepherding work.
You can see a faithfully reconstructed Lookers Hut at the centre. Based on the remains of a hut at Cutters Bridge, Midley this hut was built at the Romney Warren Country Park and is the only publicly accessible hut on Romney Marsh.
The Lookers Hut were plain, small and of simple design and construction, with very little in the way of domestic comforts, yet they were an important part of working life on the Marsh.
At their peak the huts probably numbered in the hundreds. Today less than 20 buildings remain standing, with a further three in ruinous condition.
