Wind Farms on Romney Marsh
Little Cheyne Court Wind Farm
Romney Marsh has one wind farm with 26 turbines just north of Rye at Little Cheyne Court. The 26 wind turbines at Little Cheyne Court have been operational since July 2009. However, the proximity of the site to the internationally important RSPB reserve and the land's status as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) made the decision to allow this wind farm to be erected particularly controversial.
You can find out more from this information leaflet about the wind farm
There was a proposal to erect 6 more wind turbines at Snave, however, this plan has now been withdrawn following objections from local residents and other interst groups.
There is an ongoing proposal to erect 4 more wind turbines at Old Romney, in teh heart of the Marsh. The 4 turbines at Old Romney will be located at Angney Farm. The planning application was submitted to Shepway DC on 22 January 2013 and you can read it here. People have until 30 June 2015 to respond to this application.
